Do You Need a Permit for a Dumpster in Roseville, CA?
Short answer: if your dumpster sits entirely on private property, a permit is typically not needed. If it has to go on a public street, alley, or sidewalk, the City of Roseville requires an Encroachment Permit through its Engineering – Land Development Division. We'll tell you which situation applies when we quote your delivery.

On a Public Street or Sidewalk

Appliances, TVs, computers, and tires may be accepted for an additional fee. Dirt, concrete, rock, and other heavy materials must go in a separate dumpster designed for heavy material hauling.
What can’t I put in the dumpster?+
Hazardous materials are not allowed in our dumpsters. This includes paint, chemicals, asbestos, batteries, propane bottles, tanks, sharps, liquids, fluorescent light fixtures, ballasts, antifreeze, oil, and other regulated materials.
The City of Roseville's household hazardous waste program offers Roseville residents free doorstep pickup and drop-off options for these items. If you are unsure about a specific item, give us a call before loading it and we’ll help you avoid disposal issues or additional fees.

How much space do I need for a dumpster?+
All of our dumpsters are about 8 feet wide, but the length depends on the size. Our smallest dumpsters are about 12 feet long, while our largest dumpsters can be up to 24 feet long.
You’ll also need extra space for the truck to safely deliver and pick up the dumpster. We recommend about 4 feet behind the dumpster for the doors, 20 to 30 feet in front for the truck, and about 20 feet of overhead clearance.
How long can I keep the dumpster?+
Our standard dumpster rental period is 7 days. If you need the dumpster longer, let us know and we can usually arrange an extension for a small additional fee.

Where can the dumpster be placed?+
Dumpsters should be placed on a hard, flat surface such as a driveway, parking lot, or paved area. We do not recommend placing dumpsters on grass, dirt, or soft ground because the weight may cause sinking or surface damage.
Placing a dumpster on a public street, sidewalk, or right-of-way requires an Encroachment Permit through the City of Roseville's Engineering – Land Development Division, (916) 774-5339. Keeping it on your driveway is the simplest option and skips the permit process entirely.
Do I need to be there for delivery?+
You do not need to be present for delivery as long as we have clear placement instructions and the area is accessible.
If our driver or dispatcher has any questions on delivery day, we may give you a call to confirm placement or access.
How high can I load the dumpster?+
Debris must stay level with or below the top edge of the dumpster. This is known as the fill line.
For safety and transportation regulations, overloaded dumpsters cannot be hauled. If material is above the fill line, some items may need to be removed before pickup.
What happens if I go over the weight limit?+
Trash dumpsters include a certain amount of weight in the rental price. If your load exceeds the included weight limit, an overage fee will be charged based on the additional weight.
Other material types, such as Certified C&D, dirt, concrete, and heavy materials, may be billed as haul plus disposal.
